where did the name “style
operator come from?

Funny story. My first-ever blog name back in the Blogspot days was Victims of Fashion–how original, I know. Needless to say, it never went anywhere and like my Aim username (let's not go there), I'd like to think it never happened. Style Operator didn't come to me overnight, though. It's a play on words, inspired by "Smooth Operator," a song by Sade (she's one of my favorite artists!)—I get a lot of inspiration from music, actually.

what's one word that describes your personal style?

“Conversational” is the first word that comes to mind. For every outfit, I try to incorporate at least one conversation piece—whether it’s an interesting piece of jewelry, funky shoes, or a vintage silk scarf. It’s what makes my style, well, mine. To me, that’s the fun of fashion and why I blog in the first place—how others interpret it, the feelings it evokes, and the conversation that takes place around it… that’s what it’s all about.

what exactly is a style operator?

Well, a Style Operator is just that—one that operates her day-to-day in style.

what is your style mantra?

Dress for the job you want, not the one you have. Though I’m still working on it, adopting this credo has really helped me step outside my comfort zone and take my style to the next level.

what is your nationality?

I'm Dominican-American. I was born in New York, but I'm ever-so-thankful to my parents for making sure I grew up speaking and writing Spanish (it was my first language!), and keeping those strong ties back to our country. I make a point to visit at least once a year.

what are your wardrobe staples?

For me, a complete wardrobe includes: a denim jacket, a leather pencil skirt, a crisp white blouse, boyfriend jeans, made for walkin’ sneakers, and a slip dress you can wear day or night.
